Where the Lower Venosta Valley with its Alpine-Mediterranean character meets the rugged Upper Venosta Valley there is Laces/Latsch, a lively cultural and fruit-farming centre boasting numerous examples of old architecture. Here, located along the Via Claudia Augusta are traces of constructions dating back to Roman times, Romanesque chapels, churches, fortresses and jewellery, centuries-old farms, refurbished old manor houses and works of contemporary art.

The spectacular Alpine entrance to Val Martello conjures up a completely different world. Once a significant mining area Val Martello is now a very popular winter sports venue with numerous natural wonders, as well as hotels of architectural interest.
