Skiing
In the Vinschgau valley, the ski season starts early and lasts well into spring. The Alpin Arena Senales opens as early as mid-September, followed by Sulden am Ortler/Solda all'Ortles from the end of October. Both ski resorts guarantee snow right up until the beginning of May, making them home to one of the longest ski seasons in South Tyrol.
Families will also find plenty to enjoy: children’s slopes and ski schools right in the village make Sulden/Solda, Schnals/Senales and Trafoi popular winter sports destinations. Whilst Trafoi, with its gentle runs, is particularly suitable for families, Sulden/Solda (up to 3,250 m) and Schnals/Senales (up to 3,212 m) offer challenging high-alpine experiences for experienced skiers.
A highlight in the Schnalstal valley is the Iceman Ötzi Peak viewing platform at 3,251 m. From the Grawand Peak, an impressive view opens up over 126 three-thousand-metre peaks across three countries, as well as the site where Ötzi was discovered. From the top station of the Schnalstal Glacier Cable Car, the platform can be reached in around 10 minutes via a secured path featuring steel staircases and rocky sections.
In Sulden/Solda, winter sports enthusiasts can enjoy a unique view of the trio of peaks: the König/Gran Zebrù, Zebrù and Ortler/Ortles, the highest mountain in South Tyrol at 3,905 m.
