While cross-country skiing in the Schnalstal Valley, winter sports enthusiasts glide side by side with stars of Nordic skiing across the glacier. Teams from all over Europe use the 7-kilometre Hochjoch high-altitude trail to prepare for competitions. These winding trails at 2,800 metres lead through treeless, high-alpine terrain and offer impressive views of the Ötztal Alps.
The Hochjoch trail is open from September to December.
Beginners also find ideal conditions in the Schnalstal: the 2-kilometre Lazaun trail on the Lazaun plateau is an easy, snow-sure practice loop at 2,400 metres – perfect for first steps in both classic and skating style.
