Vineyards extend all over Lower Venosta Valley. Picturesque pergolas draw their characteristic pattern at the bottom the arid Monte Sole mountain. The area displays a special micro-climate with little rain, lots of sun, hot days and cool winds at night. This climate is ideal for viticulture and makes the area of Castelbello-Ciardes/Kastelbell-Tschars unique.  Also, the autochthonous South Tyrolean wines such as Vernatsch, Lagrein, Gewürztraminer and Fraueler are gaining popularity again due to their improved quality.

Venosta Valley is a region of small wineries and DOC areas. Independent wine growers press their own grapes and produce their own wines as well as their highly acclaimed and award-winning wines and great brandies.
