To the Piz Upi in winter

General description

This tour is one of the "easier" ski tours in the Mazia valley. Especially in drifting snow, however, this tour should not be underestimated. But it is always worthwhile: at the end of the steep summit slope you can enjoy a magnificent panoramic view.

Route description

Start out from the Mazia Valley and from the Glies farmsteads (1.810 m), follow the path across the pasture until you reach the Upia Alpine pasture (2.225 m). From there, go left up to the rocks in a slightly semi-circular direction. Then cross the gentle slopes up to Upia lake (2.552 m) and continue in a southerly direction, between Upia Peak and Hochalt. The steep slope, which is the most demanding part of the hike, requires keen attention and a high level of physical fitness until you reach the peak. Prepare yourself for some stunning scenery and a dizzy descent. Not for vertigo sufferers!

The descent follows the same route.
