Circular hike along Berkwaal and Leitenwaal irrigation channel path

General description

Historic hike along the most popular irrigation channel paths in the Upper Venosta.

Route description

The hike starts at the Val Venosta Museum, from there hiking up to the mountain Kalvarien, trail no. 18, in direction to the archeological site, Ganglegg. A little above the open-air museum is the access to the Leitenwaal irrigation channel path no. 17, past quaint larches, towards the Saldurbach brook gorge. Crossing the wild river, the romantic Berkwaal no. 17, which runs through a wild rocky terrain (dry stone walls, natural tunneling, carved in rocks, or the so-called Holzkandln - out-tree trunks), can already be spotted. On the opposite side of the valley the way back leads past the farm Vernalhof, trail no. 20, down to the Castle Coira and back to the starting point, the Val Venosta Museum.
