General description
From spring to autumn, the ever-changing Ilswaal irrigation canal carries water, so in these months it is perfect for a canal hike in the sunshine.
From Schlanders, the trail leads past the Schlandersberg Castle (Schloss Schlandersberg) which is a nice place to enjoy the view. It continues past the wild gorge of the Schlandraunbach stream to the St Ägidius Church near Kortsch.

Route description
From the sports zone in Schlanders, follow hiking trail no. 3 uphill to the Ilswaal channel trail. Here it is possible to hike east to the wild ravine of Schlandrauntal river where the irrigation chanel has its source. Head uphill along switchbacks to Schlandersberg castle (in private ownership), with a spectacular view. To the west, follow the irrigation channel through chestnut groves and orchards to below St. Ägidius church.
The return trip is via the same way or via the Rosenkranzweg trail to Kortsch and onward to Schlanders.

News
Partial closure in the area of the St. Ägidius Church, i.e. the Ilswaal can be walked up to 300m before, coming from Schlanders. Trail no. 6 is also passable, a descent to Kortsch is via the Sonnenbergstrasse.
Parking
The car can be parked at the sports zone parking place. (3 hours free, 1 € all day)
Public transport
By the Venosta train to Schlanders and by the Citybus to the stop "Krankenhaus" (hospital) or on foot.
