Ceremonial Cattle Drive

Handicrafts/customs Venosta Valley
The ceremonial cattle drive from the mountain pastures , has always been an important event in the Alpine valleys and a turning point in the farm calendar. It refers to the autumnal season, because this is when the weather grows colder and cattle are driven down from the pastures and back to their stables down in the valley. For this event, the cattle are lavishly decorated and celebrated. The most popular cattle drives in Venosta Valley take place at the triangular border with Switzerland and Austria in the Resia/Reschen Pass, but also in the valley itself, around the Ortles region, in the Martello Valley, Vallelunga/Langtaufers, Trafoi Corzes/Kortsch, this tradition being maintained even up to the present day.
