The start is in Vernagt at the lake at 1,700 metres above sea level, up the path to the Tisenhof farm. The trail then climbs gently through the Tisental valley across alpine pastures and the last section in serpentines up over rocky terrain to the Similaun hut at 3,019 metres above sea level. To the left of the hut, the trail starts up along the ridge and continues over several mountain ridges to the Ötzi discovery site on the Tisenjoch at 3,210 metres above sea level.
