In defiance of the bishops of Chur, Duke Meinhard II, Count of Tyrol, founded the town of Glorenza/Glurns and in 1291 introduced the St Bartholomew Fair, held each year on the 24th of August. Here one can buy salt from the Inntal Valley, Valtinella wines, and even sheep and grains.

And thus the old market square is brought back to life each year. The municipal institution “Glorenza Marketing” organises arcade markets, in cooperation with Venosta’s direct marketing and the farmers, in the months of May, August, September and October. The theme markets take place in the historic Laubengasse.
