St. Benedikt´s Church

General description

The St. Benedikt church of Mals was ercted in the 8th century A.D. Its Carolingian frescoes are among the earliest murals in central Europe. One of the paintings depicts the only existing portrait of a landlord of the Franks.

Stairways to Heaven

Stairways to Heaven is a cultural project on the route from Engadin in Switzerland to South Tyrol. Dozens of Romanesque churches and monasteries can be seen along the way – for example the Marienberg Benedictine Abbey above Burgusio/Burgeis, St. Benedict in Malles/Mals, St. Johann in Prato allo Stelvio/Prad am Stilfserjoch or St. Veith at the Tarces Hill.
