The St. Johann Benedictine convent of Müstair Valley across the border in Switzerland is a well-preserved monastery complex that dates back to the Carolingian period. It was included in the list of UNESCO world cultural heritage sites in 1983.

Stairways to Heaven
Stairways to Heaven is a cultural project on the route from Engadin in Switzerland to South Tyrol. Dozens of Romanesque churches and monasteries can be seen along the way – for example the Marienberg Benedictine Abbey above Burgusio/Burgeis, St. Benedict in Malles/Mals, St. Johann in Prato allo Stelvio/Prad am Stilfserjoch or St. Veith at the Tarces Hill.
