Prato allo Stelvio/Prad am Stilfserjoch is situated at the entrance of the Stelvio National Park, the largest protected natural environment in Italy. Against the backdrop of the lush, green valley with its wheat fields and wide expanse of orchards and vegetable gardens, lie the majestic glaciers of the Ortler mountain range with the highest peaks in the region.

A number of castles and forts, Romanesque towns, churches, monasteries lie perched on the slopes and halfway up there are farmsteads and irrigation canals, bringing water to the fields down in the valley. The paths running alongside these canals have been converted to popular trails for leisurely walks.

This mountain valley situated on the border with Switzerland and Austria is a rich combination of history and lush nature with a landscape shaped by the harmonious coexistence between man and nature across the centuries. Near the alluvial Prader Sand, there are still traditional markets where typical products of the region may be found.
