Latschander irrigation channel trail

General description

The last big irrigation path of Val Venosta dates back to 1873, using the waters of the Adige River near Coldrano at an altitude of 660 metres and ending after 6 kilometres in Galsaun, municipality of Castelbello.

Route description
From the village centre in Laces, take the main road westwards to the 2nd crossroads after the Herilu shopping centre in the direction of the cycle path through the appleorchards. Take the cycle path (towards Malles/Mals) through the subway, then turn slightly right at ‘Poppele Knott’ onto the irrigation channel path number 3. The first section over Laces is embedded in a rather wild-looking strip of landscape, then the valley opens up. The irrigation channel path initially runs alongside orchards and vineyards above Castelbello Castle. At Castelbello Castle, take the asphalt road to the village centre of Castelbello. The way back to Laces is via the same path number 3 or alternatively via the cycle path. The water flow of the Waal depends exclusively on agriculture and weather conditions.

Alternative: you can also join the irrigation channel path at the roundabout in Laces (after the valley station of the San Martino cable car.)
