The Markets in the Upper Venosta Valley

Discover, Taste and Experience the Markets of Upper Venosta Valley

Markets have a long and ongoing tradition in Upper Venosta Valley. The exchange of goods was a vital economic pillar at the Alpine boundaries. Thus, in 1642, Crown Princess Claudia de Medici bestowed Malles/Mals with its emblem and the market rights for two annual markets, still ongoing to this day. These are the Georgi Market on April 23rd and the Golli Market on October 15th Other annual markets in the Upper Venosta Valley are the St. Veit Market taking place on June 15th in Tarces and the "Laatscher Markt" on October 25th in Laudes/Laatsch.

There are also weekly farmer markets throughout the year in Glorenza/Glurns, Malles and Sluderno/Schluderns, where regional products, arts and crafts are on sale. One of the most popular is the All Saints Market in the picturesque, medieval town of Glorenza, which takes place every year on November 2rd. The Katharina Market in Sluderno attracts visitors with its goods, culinary delicacies and live music. These markets are not just held on normal market days and they are actually highly popular local, social events.
