Paul Flora

The Famous Artists

One of the most famous artists of the Upper Venosta Valley was the draughtsman and illustrator, Paul Flora (1922- 2009). Hailing from Glorenza/Glurns, the artist’s extensive body of work has received considerable international attention, in part due to his striking and ironic imagery and the hatching technique, which was one of his trademarks. He also worked as caricaturist for the weekly newspaper "Die Zeit" for almost 25 years.

Flora, who lived in Innsbruck, was buried in Glorenza/Glurns after his death in 2009 at his own wish. In 2011, the municipality of Glorenza opened the Paul Flora Museum inside the church gate tower. Many of Flora's works are on display here.
