Johann Rufinatscha

The Composer Johann Rufinatscha

Johann Rufinatscha (1812 - 1893) is probably Tyrol's most significant composer of the 19th century and is considered to be the link between Schubert and Bruckner by many music historians.

He was born and raised in Malles/Mals and his talent was soon discovered and developed, receiving a first-class music education at the music school in Innsbruck. He lived in the pulsating metropolis of Vienna until he died. Here he was also known as a music and piano teacher and as a music theorist. Among others, he taught Julius Epstein and Ignaz Bruell.
