The marble village of Lasa
with his frazione Cengles/Tschengls
is a vibrant cultural center. Once the seat of the College of Stone Carving and Workmanship, Lasa has for a long time been the laboratory and writing workshop
of this cultural valley.
Every two years in Lasa, the highly acclaimed Franz Tumler Literature Prize
is awarded. In this way, the literary oeuvre of the great Lasa writer is honored. Even the most famous South Tyrolean writer and poet of the 20th century, N.C. Kaser, moved to Lasa shortly before his untimely death.
The successful artist and dialect poet Lusi Stefan Stecher
also comes from Lasa. He is known to wider audiences for his Plauser Totentanz on the cemetery wall of Plaus, and for his poetry book Korrnrliadr, dedicated to the formerly travelling Venosta Valley folk and their dialect.
Further internationally renowned contemporary artists and writers from Silandro and Lasa are most notably the painter Jörg Hofer, the artist Sigrid Trojer
, the photographer Gianni Bodini
, and the publisher of the South Tyrolean culture magazine Arunda, Hans Wielander
