The rich vineyards and orchards reach to Silandro/Schlanders and Lasa/Laas. On the border with Upper Venosta Valley, the cornfields and pastures begin. The fertile valley floors are framed by high, snow-capped mountains of the Ortles-Cevedale group and the Ötztal Alps on the one side. Opposing, the Monte Sole mountain, snow-free and sparse, thrones. There are higher mountains, but none more beautiful, Reinhold Messner says about the Venosta Valley mountains.

In order to bridge the high vertical distances quickly and to adjoin the many mountain farmsteads and inns with the valley, transportation such as cable cars, mountain railways, gondola lifts and chair lifts were built in all of South Tyrol. They belong to the South Tyrolean mountains like the train and bus in the valley. Around Silandro and Lasa there are around a dozen gondola lifts and chairlifts up to the high plateaus of the Monte Sole and Monte Tramontana mountains. Here you can safely leave your car behind, and make use of the discount cards for taking public transportion.
