When hiking in winter, the white season shows its most beautiful side. The snow-covered mountain landscapes under delicate winter sun are perfect for extended hikes. They lead through unspoiled nature, such as along the Haidersee and Reschensee lakes, through the Langtauferer Tal or the romantic Martelltal valleys, and even right above the tree line.

In Vinschgau, snow shoe hikers will find a large network of well marked hiking trails and secluded paths. Many of them offer spectacular panoramic views across the mountains around the Ortler range, the Sesvenna massif and the Ötztal Alps, and also further afield to the Dolomites.

Along the routes, there are plenty of refreshment stops, huts and Alpine farms, such as the Schliniger Alm Alpine pasture, the Lyfi Alm mountain hut in the Martelltal valley, as well as the Melager Alm Alpine farm on the Melag/Melago circular trail in the Langtauferer Tal valley.
