Mountain Villages in Venosta Valley

Farmhouses and Barns in Venosta Valley

The majority of the inhabitants of Venosta Valley are concentrated in the large communities in the valley. The secluded world of the mountain farms is still preserved at higher altitudes and in side valleys such as Planol/Planeil, Langtaufers/Vallelunga or Val Martello/Martelltal Valley.

Along the old farmhouses and barns, visitors will encounter many reminders of a harsh life full of privation. Although the standard of living in these isolated hamlets has improved considerably in recent years, everyday life remains hard for mountain farmers.

The mountain farmers offer an invaluable contribution to the preservation of the Alpine cultural landscape. Even in the smallest villages, contemporary architecture is combined in a harmonious symbiosis with the existing buildings.
