Jochwaal di Tarres tour

General description

Extraordinary circular hike to one of the highest irrigation channel paths in the Alps.

Route description

Start at Malga di Tarres and take the forest road southwards to the Zimruan Hut (closed). Turn right just before the hut and follow beautiful alpine paths towards Passo di Tarres and to the weather cross. Continue on path no.2A, which is more famous as the Hochwaal path. It’s a relatively flat path along an irrigation channel from the past whose remains can be seen again and again. The irrigation channel was built in the 18th century to take the water from Val d’Ultimo to Val Venosta. Just before Passo di Laces (2,500m) take the relatively steep path northwards to descend to your starting point.
