Some of the most popular hiking trails running alongside the irrigation canals, such as the Latschanderwaal
, the Rautwaal
are located around Laces and Martello. The Tarscher Jochwaal and the Goldrainer Jochwaal canals flow along the mountain slopes above Laces. These irrigation canals are at the highest altitudes anywhere in Europe. Hiking along the Soywaal and Holzrinnenwaal canals in the Martello high mountain valley, is also common.
Another feature of the irrigation canals surrounding Laces
are the grassy slopes of Monte Sole
, a haven for songbirds and home to unusual creatures and insects.
