Stelvio/Stilfs

Stelvio/Stilfs in the Ortles Region

The Mountain Village at the Foot of the Stelvio National Park

The steeply sloping mountain village of Stelvio is the principal village of the Ortles holiday region. Nestled on the mountainside, the architecture of the village is typical of the Upper Venosta Valley’s Romanesque scattered villages. The terraced settlement was built in the 15th century by miners, who moved to Ortles in search of iron ore.

The village is characterized by small, crooked, skyward-leaning houses and narrow alleys. Stelvio is located in the center of the Stelvio National Park, the largest conservation area in Italy.
