Montechiaro/Lichtenberg

To the north-west of Agumes/Agums, at an altitude of 930 meters, lies the hamlet of Montechiaro comprising approximately 250 inhabitants. Its main tourist attraction is the ruin of Lichtenberg Castle that was built in the 13th century by the Tyrolean Counts as a defence against the Bishops of Coira. Other places of interest include the small churches of St. Christina di Pinet and St. Joseph. The Frauwaal irrigation channel passes through, connecting Montechiaro with Agumes and Prato allo Stelvio.

Montechiaro is a popular starting-point for hikes and hikes with family. Circular hiking paths lead to Montechiaro Masi, to the Montechiaro Alpine pasture, Montechiaro Castle and to Agumes. Mountain bikers will also find picturesque and challenging trails to explore as well as spectacular views of the imposing Ortles Massif.
