The Via Claudia Augusta
runs along the Adige River through the valley, as Venosta Valley was an important passage across the Alps already in ancient times. Many traces dating back to the Roman era can be found in Castelbello-Ciardes. The Middle Ages also left their mark, and numerous castles, abbeys and ruins can be found in the Venosta Valley.
In order to discover this historical heritage, theme trails have been created in Castelbello-Ciardes, for example along the Via Claudia Augusta or dedicated to Romanesque churches. Today, Castelbello-Ciardes forms part of the history-hiking project Stairways to heaven - Middle ages in the heart of the alps
. The cultural diversity of the region can be explored while hiking on educational trails. Some of these trails are also dedicated to the excellent local products
of the region.
The educational trail Sunnenweg
with the Mythenweg
and the Ortl-Steig
in Castelbello-Ciardes enjoy particular popularity.
