The Monte Sole Mountain
near Castelbello-Ciardes is unique from a landscape point of view. Surrounded by high mountain ranges, the Lower Venosta Valley is the sunniest region of the Alps
. The vegetation on the slopes of the Monte Sole has to make do with only 550mm of rainfall per year. The local flora and fauna have adapted to this special micro-climate.
Hikers can expect varied possibilities for hiking along the popular irrigation channel paths
on the Monte Sole, as well as excursions to the almost 4000m high summits. The hiking trails across the ruins of Colsano Castle on Monte Trumès are particularly popular. The Monte Sole is snow-free year round
, and it is therefore possible to hike through the sunny and picturesque landscape also during winter.
