Alpine Pastures in the Lower Venosta Valley

Alpine Cultural Landscape in Castelbello-Ciardes

The conditions for fruit and wine growing are ideal in the Venosta Valley. However, the high-Alpine landscape surrounding the Venosta Valley and the Castelbello-Ciardes holiday area is largely characterized by Alpine pastures. Today, 83 pastures covering approximately 37,000 hectares of ground at an average altitude of 2,000m are cultivated in the entire Venosta Valley. Around the holiday villages of Castelbello and Ciardes, a great number of pastures can be found.

Today, the pastoral huts are used mainly as rest stops for hikers and mountain bikers. These offer high-quality homemade food and the possibility to relax on the spacious sun terraces.
