Törggelen in Autumn in Castelbello-Ciardes
Freshly roasted chestnuts
In Castelbello-Ciardes, Autumn is Törggelen time! After the harvest is brought in, the locals and guests gather together to ancient taverns to celebrate the abundant yield. Originally, it served as a tasting of the crop, but today Törggelen takes place in the entire province and for a general audience: First, local pasta varieties are served as appetizers and thereafter hearty main dishes are on course. Finally, there are freshly roasted chestnuts as well as desserts and traditional Suser, the young sweet wine.
Some of the best taverns of South Tyrol are located in Castelbello and Ciardes. For example, there is the award-winning Niedermoarhof tavern at Monte Trumés, the almost 200 year-old Angerguterkeller tavern in Marein, the Pfraumkeller behind the Castel Castelbello, the Gstirnerkeller tavern near Adige river, the Niedermairhof at Monte Fontana and the Himmelreichhof tavern on the slopes of Ciardes/Tschars.
And for all those who want to experience the traditional Törggelen under the open sky, it is highly recommended to visit the annual Törggele celebration in the streets and cellars of Colsano/Galsaun.
