Vinery Landscape

Vinery Landscape in Castelbello-Ciardes

Surrounded by Vineyards

The hills in the Lower Venosta Valley are characterized by vineyards. Picturesque pergola are distributed along the Monte Sole. The Venosta Valley, which is the largest dry valley in the Alps, has a unique and varied micro-climate, with many hours of sun, low rainfall, wind and prehistoric slate rock soil. These make for ideal conditions for wine growing in Castelbello-Ciardes. However, the size of the cultivation area is highly limited, and therefore priority is placed on quality rather than quantity.

Wine cultivation in the Venosta Valley is characterized by small wineries. A highly acclaimed Riesling is pressed here, and this is also fertile ground for producing Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Veltliner, as well as red wines such as Pinot Noir and Zweigelt. The typical South Tyrolean wines grown here include Vernatsch, Gewuerztraminer and Fraueler, which is promoted by the winegrowers association of Venosta Valley.
