Museums in Venosta Valley

Museums and Exhibitions in the culture region Venosta Valley

The biggest draws among the museums of Venosta Valley are the two branches of theMessner Mountain Museum (MMM) founded by mountaineer Reinhold Messner (with 5 branches in total around South Tyrol): the underground museum located in Solda/Sulden at the Ortles/Ortler mountain range (at an altitude of 1900m) and the branch at Juval Castle, which is dedicated to the more spiritual aspects of "mountain mythology".

Apart from the historical museum of the Ortles region, there are also five visitor centers in the Stelvio National Park. These provide insights into the flora and fauna of the unique Ortles-Cevedale massif. The Churburg castle in Sluderno/Schluderns boasts a Romanesque chapel and a large collection of weapons and armour. The Venosta Museum is host to two permanent exhibitions, on archaeology in the region and the history of the local rural population.
