Churches, Monasteries and Chapels in Venosta Valley

Churches, Cloisters and Chaples in Venosta Valley

The Venosta Valley is home to numerous churches, monasteries and convents of cultural and historical importance, some of which date back more than 10 centuries. The history of these sacred buildings is also characterized by the armed conflicts of this region, but nevertheless, a few of these cultural treasures have stood the test of time.

A number of Romanesque churches and chapels can be found in the area, dating back to the Carolingian era. Among those are unique gems such as the St. Benedict Church in Malles/Mals, the nearby St. Proculus Church in Naturno/Naturns, St. Veit at the Tarces hill, the St. Johann Church in Campo Tures/Taufers in the Muenster Valley and the Monte Maria monastery located along theVia Claudia Augusta - the highest altitude Benedictine abbey of Europe.
