Fruit and Vegetable Gardens in Venosta Valley

Fruit and Wine Cultivation in Venosta Valley

A characteristic feature of the South Tyrolean valleys is the growing of fruit and the making of wine. The moderate climate of the valleys offers ideal growing conditions. At an altitude of more than 1000m, Venosta Valley has the highest situated growing areas in Italy.

Apart from traditional apple varieties, other regional products have also beenn rediscovered, such as the Pala pear and the Venosta Valley apricot. The particular micro-climate and altitude slow down the maturation process and give the fruit a unique aroma. The berries of Venosta Valley are also of high quality, in particular the late-maturing strawberries from the high-Alpine area of Val Martello/Martelltal valley.
