The Alpine Road of Romanesque Art

The Alpine Road of Romanesque Art – Stairways to Heaven is a culture hiking project alongside historic monuments of the Romanesque period. The Alpine Road of Romanesque Art leads from Engadin in Switzerland through the ancient Roman Trade routeVia Claudia Augusta in Venosta Valley, where it comprises over 30 unique Romanesque sites: from the Benedictine abbey Monte Maria to the Carolingian church St. Benedict in Malles/Mals, and from the unique medieval town of Glorenza/Glurns to the pre-Carolingian St. Prokulus church in Lower Val Venosta, bearing the oldest existing frescoes of Central Europe.
